November 2023 Newsletter

November is always jam-packed with activity for club members and families.  Not only does the Thanksgiving celebration jump-start the holiday season, this month also includes our annual layout tour to commemorate model railroading and the Jubilee of Trees to benefit the St. George Regional Hospital.  Read on for the details as well as the regular newsletter good stuff.

Club Business
The annual Color Country Model Railroad Club layout open house is scheduled for November 10-13, 2023.  Click HERE for details on the layouts on display and related information.

Benefiting the St. George Regional Hospital's Surgical Services program, the Jubilee of Trees will be held in the Exhibit Hall at Dixie Center between November 19-21.  Along with trees, wreaths, and various decorative holiday scenes available at auction, visitors can also bid on the Lionel Group’s “Oil Town USA” layout displayed near Santa Clause.  Club members are highly encouraged to help mind the layout during the event.  Click HERE for the current volunteer signup list and reply to d.lloyd.thomson@gmail.com with your choice of dates and times.  Remember, you’ll be admitted free to the event to work your shift(s).

CCMRRC Name Badges are available for purchase.  The September 2023 Newsletter (https://www.colorcountrytrains.org/2023/08/september-2023-newsletter.html) has all the details about how to obtain one.  If you haven’t ordered yours yet, contact Larry Schneider (peggy.larry.schneider@gmail.com).

November Luncheon Dates
November 3rd and November 17th - Bloomington Country Club at 11:30am.  If you plan to attend, contact Bryan Enarson (bryanlax@aol.com) no later than November 1st and/or November 15th.  NOTE:  Unlike a typical restaurant which welcomes any number of patrons, the country club arranges tables and chairs specifically for our luncheons.  Again, if you plan to attend, contact Bryan at the email above.

CCMRRC Holiday Party
Your club’s officers have decided to try something new this year.  Instead of the annual Christmas Party normally held in December, we will have a New Year Celebration event in January.  December is a busy month for all of us and an event in January will be easier to schedule and for the venues where we would like to hold a party.  Look for more details and a date in the December newsletter.

Speaking of holiday events, Thunder Junction is hosting its North Pole Express over nine nights beginning early December.  Order your tickets online November 20.  https://www.sgcity.org/thunderjunction/northpoleexpress

Bryan Enarson describes the changes he’s made to his four layouts.  Photos can be seen HERE after scrolling down to the November 2023 Update   “Two of my four gauges saw changes this year. The G scale layout (8x17) now has 2 levels. The upper level runs the San Francisco Trolley. Included is a second level station located above the first level station; connected by an elevator for passengers. The first level has a new village on one end and an industrial complex on the other.

The O gauge layout now features the Santa Fe Super Chief and the addition of a passenger station. The remaining layout, including the popular operating draw bridge, is the same.

The HO layout remains unchanged. The S gauge (American Flyer) was taken down and is waiting for a new layout board.  Future development.

Larry Schneider describes his layout changes: “Last spring I changed the main line layout to give more room to the Farm and also add a second siding to allow staging of additional trains. This fall I have completed the change and moved the farm buildings to the expanded area. The barn, silo, horse barn, corral, and fueling station were moved, and additional power lines were added to keep the barn lights operating. Also added to the road for access to town with a grade crossing next to complete. To do this the fire tower was moved from its old spot to a more efficient location higher up and with an expanded view.”  Click HERE and scroll to the November 2023 Update for the latest photos.

N scale Group VP Rich Wilson is offering for sale a partially completed 3.5‘ x 5’ layout previously donated to the Club.  Rich has finished laying the track and wiring; needing only scenery and buildings for completion.  The layout will be on display at Bryan Enarson's Man Cave during the tour and would be a great way for potential model railroaders to get involved with the greatest hobby in the world.
