2019 Museum Special Excursion

Union Pacific announced today UP 4014 will pull a special excursion train on July 15, 2019.  Read more HERE.

Not being familiar with mid-west geography, I was curious about the route this excursion might use from Omaha, NE to Boone, IA. Since the announcement states Union Pacific tracks will be used, a quick Google search netted this document from the Iowa DOT website which shows UP routes throughout the state on the last page.

If I were to guess (and a guess is all it is), it appears the excursion route runs through Logan, Dennison, Carroll, Jefferson, and Grand Junction on its way to Boone. Depending upon the time of day and weather conditions, I would hope there are a few good locations for a railfan to observe, photograph, or video the consist.
